Celebrity Cruises will be raising gratuities beginning January 6th. Gratuities will increase from $14.50 to $15.50 for standard staterooms, and from $15.00 to $16.00 for guests in Concierge and Aqua Class staterooms. Suite Class will change from $18.00 to $19.00 a day.

Cruise lines increase gratuities to maintain pace with the growing cruise market as well as keeping up with costs. The gratuities are shared among workers on ships. From servers in restaurants to bartenders and those behind the scenes that you may never see, the gratuities are an important part of their salary. Gratuities are often discussed in public forums and can be a hot button topic. At Cruising Better, we feel gratuities are part of the cruising experience and while there may or may not be a better way of showing gratitude and ensuring cruise workers have fair pay, this is the system in place currently and not paying them, hurts the workers one may try to actually be helping.

The statement went on to say: “gratuities are shared by our exceptional onboard dining and culinary services team, stateroom attendants, other housekeeping services personnel, as well as staff from other departments who work behind the scenes to enhance your cruise experience.”

Guests who have prepaid their gratuities will not be affected, and guests can avoid the new fees by prepaying before January 6th, 2020. Learn more by visiting princess.com
